A study is being conducted to see if swimming outdoors can help reduce symptoms of depression. Researchers from the University of Portsmouth and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are looking for volunteers to participate in the study, which will include swimming sessions in various locations across England.

The study follows a successful initial trial that showed promising results in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms among adults who swam outdoors. If the new study confirms these findings, outdoor swimming could become a cost-effective treatment option for depression nationwide.

The study, named Outside, will involve monitoring participants for up to 38 weeks to assess the impact of outdoor swimming on depressive symptoms and anxiety.

This research could potentially broaden the treatment options available for people with depression.

Anyone interested in participating can find more information on the project’s website.
