- Assessment Overview Each course at Orapuh School is assessed using both formative and summative assessments.
- Formative Assessments: These are ongoing assessments conducted throughout the course to provide feedback to learners on their progress. Formative assessments are not graded but are essential for guiding learning.
- Summative Assessments: These occur at the end of each course and are graded out of 100%. Summative assessments reflect the learner’s understanding and mastery of course material.
- Grading Scale The grading system is based on a 4-point scale: Distinction, Merit, Pass, and Fail. The grades are assigned based on the learner’s final summative assessment score:
- Distinction (D): 70% – 100%
- Merit (M): 60% – 69%
- Pass (P): 50% – 59%
- Fail (F): Below 50%
- Pass Mark The minimum pass mark for all courses is 50%. Any learner who scores below 50% in the summative assessment will receive a Fail grade.
- Weighting and Distribution
- All summative assessments are graded over 100%.
- Formative assessments, although not graded, are mandatory for completion and play a crucial role in preparing learners for the summative assessments.
- Grade Calculations The final grade for a course is based solely on the summative assessment score. Scores are converted into the 4-point scale as outlined above.
- Feedback Mechanism Learners will receive comprehensive feedback on both formative and summative assessments, with the aim of highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
- Remedial Actions for Failures Learners who fail a course will be allowed to retake the summative assessment, in line with the school’s retake policy.
