An AI-driven robot dentist has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing its first unsupervised procedure on a live human patient. Developed by the American company Perceptive, the robot completed a dental crown replacement in just 15 minutes—eight times quicker than a traditional human dentist.
The procedure began with a detailed 3D scan of the patient’s mouth, which the AI used to autonomously plan and execute the crown replacement.
Dr Chris Ciriello, CEO and founder of Perceptive, highlighted that this groundbreaking technology enhances the accuracy and efficiency of dental procedures, thereby making high-quality dental care more widely accessible.
