Learners examine the role of oral health in overall health and health systems, and develop foundational competence in population-based oral health assessment, planning, and problem-solving.
PC3-012: Oral Health Systems, Law, and Policy (3 Credits)
This course examines the organisation, financing, and governance of oral health services within broader health systems. It introduces legal and regulatory frameworks in dental public health and develops skills in policy analysis, advocacy, and the translation of evidence into actionable oral health policies.
PC3-013: Oral Epidemiology and Control of Oral Diseases (3 Credits)
This course applies epidemiological principles to the study of oral health and disease. Learners analyse the distribution, determinants, and burden of oral diseases, including risk factors, surveillance systems, and evidence-based strategies for prevention and population-level disease control.
PC3-014: Social and Behavioural Sciences in Oral Health (3 Credits)
This course explores social, cultural, behavioural, and structural determinants of oral health. It equips learners to analyse oral health behaviours, address inequities, and design interventions that reduce disparities and improve oral health outcomes across populations.
PC3-015: Oral Health Promotion, Communication, and Artificial Intelligence (4 Credits)
This course focuses on population-based oral health promotion and disease prevention strategies. It integrates health communication, behavioural change approaches, and the application of artificial intelligence to enhance oral health education, outreach, and risk-reduction initiatives.
PC3-016: WHO Basic Methods for Oral Health Surveys (3 Credits)
This course introduces the World Health Organization’s standardised methods for oral health surveys. Learners gain practical skills in survey design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation to support evidence-informed planning, monitoring, and evaluation of oral health programmes.
PC3-017: mMDPH Capstone (Practicum and Seminar) (6 Credits)
The capstone course integrates learning across the mMDPH programme through applied fieldwork and/or a supervised seminar project. Learners demonstrate competence in oral health assessment, intervention planning, and reporting, with assessment based on the rigour, relevance, and quality of submitted reports and presentations.
