1. Overview

The Division of Oral Health (OCS-DOH) is a specialised unit within the Orapuh College of Scholars, dedicated to members and fellows with a focus on oral health. The division is managed by a Divisional Director, supported by a Deputy Divisional Director.

2. Divisional Leadership and Roles

  • Divisional Director (Director, OCS-DOH): The Director oversees all divisional activities, including the organisation of events, member management, and mentorship assignments.
  • Deputy Divisional Director (Deputy Director, OCS-DOH): Assists the Director in day-to-day operations and assumes the Director’s responsibilities in their absence.
  • Fellows (Divisional Mentors): Serve as mentors to candidates, guiding them throughout their fellowship journey.

3. Divisional Activities

  • Event Planning: The OCS-DOH shall organise oral health-focused activities, particularly during significant events such as World Oral Health Day. All activities must receive prior approval from the President of OCS.
  • Resource Gathering: Members are responsible for identifying resources and opportunities that enhance oral health and advance the division’s mission.
  • Monthly Review Meetings: A 30-minute mandatory meeting will be held monthly to discuss suggestions, resources, and opportunities.

4. Membership Requirements

  • Eligibility: Candidates must have a background in the dental profession, be enrolled in the OFP with a focus on oral health, and be committed to advancing the field of oral health.
  • Expression of Interest (EOI): Must be submitted within one week following the orientation of a new OFP cohort. The EOI should include the candidate’s name, profession, qualifications, OFP focus area, and other relevant information.
  • Focus Area: Each candidate must select one oral health focus area and submit seven related topics of interest during the first few weeks of the OFP.

5. Mentorship

  • Assignment: Each OFP candidate will be assigned a mentor (Fellow) from the OCS-DOH, who will guide them throughout the fellowship.
  • Responsibilities: Mentors are responsible for ensuring that mentees meet their academic and project milestones. Mentors provide guidance but do not complete tasks on behalf of mentees.
  • Accountability: Mentors who fail to fulfil their responsibilities may be replaced or face disciplinary action by the Orapuh Redress & Disciplinary Committee (ORDC).

6. Participation in Special Events

  • Pre-Oraposium/Oraposium Participation
    • Candidates are required to select oral health topics relevant to their focus area and submit them for approval. Participation in the Oraposium event must adhere to the Oraposium SOPs. This event is crucial for presenting scholarly work and engaging with peers in oral health.
  • Orapuh Clinical Case Reviews (OCliCR)
    • As part of their fellowship requirements, candidates must also participate in the Orapuh Clinical Case Reviews (OCliCR). They are expected to propose clinical case topics related to their focus area, which must be approved before presentation. The presentation must follow the prescribed template and is a key component of professional development within the OCS-DOH.
  • Orapuh Scholarly Concourse
    • In addition to the above, candidates are required to attend the monthly Orapuh Scholarly Concourse. This session focuses on mentoring and strategic development, providing a platform for candidates to discuss their progress, challenges, and future strategies within the oral health discipline.

7. Complaints, Inquiries, and Suggestions

  • Inquiries: Mentors are the primary point of contact for assistance and resolving complaints.
  • Complaints: Should be directed to the Divisional Director for resolution. The President may be involved if the issue exceeds the Director’s authority.
  • Suggestions: Can be submitted to the Divisional Director for inclusion in the monthly review meeting agenda.
